Zhao's solo show celebrates new China

Artist Zhao Chengmin is making a comeback with his first solo show in 35 years at National Art Museum of China.

Two of his award-winning, expressionist metal sculptures have already attracted public attention.

Permanently installed at the Xihongmen and Gaomidian South Stations of Beijing Subway's newly-opened Line 4 Daxing Section, one piece depicts a military parade during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), while another describes a poetic springtime scenery in the Daxing district.

The exhibition is a manifestation of Zhao's decades-long pursuit of "a personal style that seamlessly combines classical aesthetics, Western techniques, and industrial materials".

Zhao had a solid training in sketching, sculpture, and graphic design in the 1960s.

The exhibition, entitled Qi, Wu, He (spiritual energy, enlightenment and ultimate harmony), features more than 50 large-scale sculpture pieces.

9 am-5 pm, until April 24. National Art Museum of China, 1 Wusi Dajie, Dongcheng district, Beijing. 010-6401-7076.
