China Daily | Updated: 2011-11-09 13:17

The annual World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) took place in Doha, capital of Qatar, earlier this month.

Inaugurated by Qatar Foundation in 2009, the summit aims to promote innovation in education and link education to global issues.

The theme of the 2011 WISE Summit is "Changing Societies, Changing Education". It brought together more than 1,200 decision makers and scholars from 104 countries and regions. More than 10 Chinese scholars from such institutes as Peking University, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and Chinese University of Hong Kong were invited to attend or give speeches during the summit.

During the three-day summit, 60 sessions were held. Some 150 speakers discussed, debated and shared ideas on such topics as educational models, effective changes in the sector and the future prospects of education around the world.
