FBI: Same gun shot at Pentagon, Marines' museum

2010-10-27 07:34

WASHINGTON - The FBI on Tuesday said it has linked a shooting at the Pentagon to another one at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia. It is also investigating another similar incident overnight at a Marine Corps recruiting station in northern Virginia.

The FBI said investigative evidence has confirmed that shots fired at the Pentagon and Marine Corps museum involved a single weapon. Ballistics testing is underway for the shooting that took place Monday night to Tuesday morning at the Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Chantilly, Virginia.

The incident at the Marine Corps museum took place during the early morning hours on Oct 17. A similar incident occurred at approximately 5 am on Oct 19, at the Pentagon after officers reported audible shots fired in the vicinity of the Pentagon's south parking lot, which faces Interstate highway 395. Officers said earlier the shooting may involve a high velocity rifle.

The FBI said no further information, including a potential weapon used or the caliber of the ammunition, will be released at this time to "preserve the integrity of investigative efforts".
