Tiger Woods is to hold a news conference ahead of next week's PGA tournament in Florida to discuss his recent troubles.

The announcement was made earlier today on the tour's official website, which said that the golf star will face the press on Friday at 11am EST.

According to the 33-year-old's agent Mark Steinberg, Woods will read a pre-prepared statement apologising for his behaviour and discuss tentative plans for the future.

Steinberg told Bloomberg: "Tiger plans to discuss his past and his future, and he plans to apologise for his behaviour. [He] feels as though it's time to make amends and to publicly do that."

It is thought that no-one will be permitted to ask questions during the conference.

Meanwhile, the PGA news conference is due to be held during the Accenture Match Play Championship, one of several sponsors to have dropped Woods following the reports of his numerous affairs.
