"Babel" and "The Departed" shared the top drama honor at the American Cinema Editors' Eddie Awards Sunday, only the second tie in the event's 57-year history.

The other tie occurred in 1989, when "Rain Man" shared the honors with "Mississippi Burning."

Elsewhere, "Dreamgirls" took home the prize for best edited feature film, comedy or musical.

The awards ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton.

"Babel" editors Stephen Mirrione and Douglas Crise were both first-time winners, as was "Dreamgirls" editor Virginia Katz. "Departed" editor Thelma Schoonmaker added a fourth Eddie to her collection; she was awarded the same honor most recently in 2005 for "The Aviator," and went on to win the Academy Award, the second of her career.

Both "Babel" and "The Departed" will compete for the editing Oscar next Sunday, alongside "Blood Diamond," "Children of Men" and "United 93."
