Contaminated ice causes outbreak
( 2003-11-04 17:11) (China Daily)

Contaminated cold drinks are believed to have caused an outbreak of hepatitis A in Haifeng, which has recorded 29 confirmed cases and 31 probable cases since October 23, reports New Express News.

A cold beverage stall put ice that had been used to freeze seafood into drinks, causing the infectious disease to spread, according to health experts.

The local government announced that the outbreak was under control as no new cases had been reported since October 29.

The hepatitis A virus can survive some three months and often reaches a high density in seafood. Uncooked seafood is the disease's No 1 mode of transmission.
