A man has been arrested on charges of killing his next-door neighbours in the Zhabei District Sunday morning over a pair of leather shoes, Xinmin Evening News reports.

Xu, 44 and single, lived with his mother.

According to other people residing in the same complex, he was antisocial and ill-tempered.

Several days ago, Xu mentioned to several others that the couple living in the flat next to his, taxi driver Xu Caigong and his wife, always made fun of him which annoyed him a lot.

On Saturday, he even shouted at the neighbours' front door that his shoes had been stolen and when he found out who had done it, he would kill him.

At about 6 on Sunday morning, he killed Xu Caigong as he was leaving for work and then murdered his wife as well.

He surrendered himself to the police after the incident.
