Prisoner attends father's funeral

The wife of a prisoner wrote to the Xicheng District detention house on
Wednesday to express her gratitude for the decision to allow her husband to
attend his father's funeral, reports Beijing Morning Post.
Chen received the news of his father's death on August 16 as he was serving
his one-year jail term for the crime of disturbing public order. After
confirming the news, police decided to make an exception for Chen in view of
new, more humane measures in the management of prisoners.
Five plain-clothes officers accompanied Chen, who was allowed to wear his own
clothes and was not handcuffed, to his father's funeral that
afternoon.
