A cast of Auguste Rodin's The Thinker belonged to the Cantor Fitzgerald brokerage firm, which lost 650 employees in the attacks. Amazingly, the work actually survived the destruction and it reportedly resurfaced shortly after Sept 11, but disappeared again. Some believe it was stolen from Ground Zero. Overall, some 300 sculptures and drawings by Rodin collected by Cantor Fitzgerald were lost. [Photo/cantorfoundation.org] |
