The Tunbao people, who reside around the city of today's Anshun, are descendent of garrison troops sent by Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), to the area 600 years ago to suppress and prevent rebellions by ethnic minorities.
