PMI below estimates in April, but remains in expansionary territory

Chinese mainland stocks on Tuesday gained the most in a month as investor confidence was boosted by President Xi Jinping's call for "the healthy development" of the country's bourses.

Analysts said that the rise also reflected easing concerns over the possibility of the authorities tightening the monetary policy after the massive credit growth in the first quarter of the year.
