China Daily | Updated: 2013-05-06 08:08

Beijing residents may soon be slating their thirsts with desalinated water.

Beijing Enterprises Water Group said the Caofeidian seawater desalination project in Hebei province will have an output capacity within three years of 1 million metric tons a day, to quench the capital's thirst.

The supply can meet the daily demand of about 5 million people, nearly 25 percent of the capital's total daily domestic water consumption.
