Chinese charity aids victims of typhoon

China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, a nonprofit charity organization, will donate 4.4 million pesos ($110,000) for the construction of 40 houses in typhoon disaster areas in the southern Philippines, Xinhua News Agency reported, citing an official from CSCLF. Li Ning, the secretary general of CSCLF, said in a signing ceremony between the organization and its local partners that Typhoon Bopha had done great damage to the southern Philippine provinces of Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental. One of the most immediate needs was suitable housing for those relocated. CSCLF will give the funding in the near future to two local foundations, the report said. The latter two groups are obliged to coordinate with the local government of these provinces in the building of the 40 houses. CSCLF is also considering donating schoolhouses and assisting poor students in the disaster areas with the help of its local partners, it said.
