Officers' power may be cuffed

By Zhu Zhe | China Daily | Updated: 2009-08-25 07:59

On-duty government officers cannot seize the daily necessities of individuals and their families, such as food, clothes and shelters, according to a draft law designed to restrain government power.

The draft law also bans government agencies from holding the property of individuals for more than 60 days, with exception to laws that have other stipulations.

The draft administrative coercion law, which has received a great deal of public attention and opposition within the government, was first discussed a decade ago and has received three revisions.
