KINSHASA: At least 42 people were killed and another 100 are missing after a boat they were traveling on sank on a remote stretch of river in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a government official said on Friday.

The accident happened on Tuesday night after the boat struck a rock on the Ubangi river, Mathieu Bela, district commissioner for North Ubangi on the border with the Central African Republic, said.
