No tax for digital hongbao for friends and family

Companies that send money to individuals as bonuses or gifts through smart phone applications should pay taxes, said Wang Jun, minister of State Administration of Taxation.

Individual users sending gift money, or hongbao, to relatives and friends on applications need not pay tax, he said.
