A Shenzhen Wal-Mart employee who accused the city's Honghu branch where he worked of selling expired meat and reusing cooking oil was suspended from his post, Yangcheng Evening News in Guangzhou reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, the employee received a notice from the Honghu Walmart store on Sunday, saying he had been suspended from his duties but would still receive his monthly salary, which is about 3,000 yuan ($487) per month.

Last week, the employee disclosed videos showing the Honghu Walmart, a Shenzhen branch of US-based retail giant Wal-Mart Stores Inc, sells food beyond its expiration date, reuses cooking oil and resells rice contaminated by insects.

An investigation is underway by the Shenzhen food safety authorities but no conclusion has yet been reached.

The employee told Yangcheng Evening News his employer transferred him to another department without his agreement in late July.

However, the employee said, he accused Walmart not out of revenge, but because of his conscience.
