Beijing creates blacklist of hospital bribers

By Wang Qingyun (chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2014-04-23 20:09

Beijing has set up a blacklist of pharmaceutical companies and medical representatives who bribe hospitals, Beijing Morning Post reported on April 23.

The blacklist will include those who are convicted of bribery and who are investigated and punished by Party discipline committees for the crime, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Population and Family Planning.

The commission will notify pharmaceutical companies and medical representatives before they are put on the list.

Those who are object to the decision can appeal and apply for a hearing.

Government-funded hospitals are not allowed to buy products made by the companies or people on the list within two years.

Beijing's blacklist was set up according to the requirement of the National Health and Family Planning Commission that all provinces must set up a blacklist to curb bribery in the pharmaceutical industry.

The National Health and Family Planning Commission issued the requirement in December after GlaxoSmithKline, a pharmaceutical company based in Britain, was found involved in bribery in China in July 2013.
