A township official is being investigated for allegedly killing a relative while driving drunk, Western China Metropolis Daily reported on Wednesday.

Zhou Dongjun, chief of the Shibandeng township social service center, struck and killed 59-year-old relative Xiao Huijun while driving under the influence of alcohol on Jan 30, police said.

Zhou has been suspended and is on probation. According to sobriety tests conducted by the local police, Zhou was drunk when the incident occurred and his blood alcohol level reached 267.04 mg per 100 ml. Under Chinese law, a driver who has 20 milligrams of alcohol per 100 ml of blood or more is considered over the legal limit.

Police said the victim’s autopsy has not been completed to confirm whether or not the vehicle Zhou drove repeatedly rolled over Xiao’s body.

According to police, Zhou got his driver’s license in March 2013.
