Shanghai education authorities required local primary and middle school students to finish a family emergency escape map for homework during winter vacation.

Besides that, in addition to learn fire safety knowledge, students were asked to work with family members to discover hidden fire hazards in the family home and to make a family fire emergency escape plan, according to the statement released at the official website of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission on Thursday.

The move was to further improve students' awareness of fire safety and how to make an emergency escape, official said.
