A man who refused to take care of his elderly parents was detained for 15 days, Yangcheng Evening News reporter on Friday.

The man, surnamed Zhang, is a resident of Dapu county, Guangdong province and is the eldest son in the family.

His relationship with his parents turned sour in early 2008. Zhang then refused to offer them financial support and refused to take care of them despite their failing health and an agreement he had reached with his brothers and sisters.

The parents brought a lawsuit against him in May and the court ruled on Aug 30 that Zhang had to honor the agreement, but Zhang refused.

The court decided to detain Zhang for 15 days as punishment.
