An unplanned pregnancy brought a 32-year-old woman surnamed Liu more worries than joy, as she felt anxious about whether she can return to work at the same position after giving birth and enjoy the same treatment as before.

Women are still facing some unfair treatment at work despite big improvements, zjol.com.cn reported on Tuesday, citing a survey on women's social status in East China's Zhejiang province.

The survey, jointly released by the provincial women's federation and statistics bureau, shows that 9.3 percent of women have experienced discrimination in employment and 6.3 percent have suffered sexual harassment.

Pregnancy may also hinder women's promotion in companies. When Liu was younger, she gave up having children for the sake of her career.
