NANNING - A police shooting that wounded two hotel employees in Southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region was the result of a dispute between two police officers and the employees, police said.

Police officer Lu Tao, 38, allegedly shot two employees of the Hangkong Hotel in the region's capital city of Guilin on Monday after arguing with them over fees, the city's public security bureau said in a statement late Tuesday.

The manager of the hotel's entertainment section surnamed Li and an employee surnamed Qin were wounded.

Li's vital organs were not damaged and he is in stable condition. Qin is more seriously hurt and is still in the intensive care unit after seven hours of surgery, said doctors at the No. 181 Hospital of the People's Liberation Army where Li and Qin are being treated.

Lu, a police officer with the Xingbin branch of the city of Laibin's police bureau, was taken into custody, as was his colleague, a man surnamed Huang. Both officers were involved in the dispute before the shooting occurred, the statement said.

Police vowed that they will cooperate with prosecuting authorities to investigate and deal with the case in accordance with the law.
