Ministry of Culture removes 100 songs from Web

In a move aimed at regulating online music sharing websites, the Chinese Ministry of Culture(CMC) removed over a hundred songs that lacked authorization or registration, the Guangzhou Daily reported on Jan 10,2011.
The songs included those by A1 (It Happens Every Day), Bruno Mars (Grendade), Eminem (Cold Wind Blows) and several popular Chinese singers such as Jay Zhou, S.H.E and Jolin Chai.
“The songs are all unregistered by CMC office. Songs provided on music websites involve copyright infringement and therefore have to clear out,”says a notice newly issued by the CMC.
The ministry aims to set a standard market for online music sharing by the end of February 2011, and all songs uploaded online should obtain either CMC censorship (imported music only) or authorization for Chinese music products.
