The official, Wang Lequan, deputy secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province.

He said local authorities must strive to help Xinjiang's residents ?solve their difficulties and problems in employment, housing, education and health care.

The local authorities were also told to work harder to extend basic public services to residents from Xinjiang so that people from Xinjiang would be well accommodated while living or working out of their hometown.

Wang called on the local authorities to closely monitor and efficiently resolve disputes and conflicts involving people of ethnic minorities from Xinjiang before the situation escalates.

Wang was removed as Party chief of the far western Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in April after having held the post for 15 years.
