'There's nothing like a traditional British lunch'

Unlike previous years when I have either gone back home or stayed with my parents and siblings, this Christmas I am far away in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province, with my girlfriend.

This is not my first Christmas in China. I spent the season in Shanghai one year with lots of friends, which was lovely. In the evening, a friend and I were invited to a fellow Brit's home where we had a fantastic traditional lunch with all the trimmings, finished off with some champagne, good conversation and fine cigars.

This year, I think we will go out for lunch and in the evening join my boss for supper at a very good seafood restaurant. It will be a first for me - fish on Christmas Day!

One thing I will miss on Christmas Day is a proper Christmas lunch cooked by my mother, which I class as the meal of the year. Nothing compares.
