China, Pakistan sign MOU on agricultural co-op

SHANGHAI -- China and Pakistan signed a Memorandum of Understanding on agricultural technology cooperation on Monday, with visiting Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari witnessed the signing.

Under the MOU, China will provide Pakistan with technology and advice on water-efficient irrigation, as well as the colored and hybrid cotton.

The two sides will also cooperate on other agricultural technology training and transfers.

The MOU was agreed by the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council and Xinjiang Tianye water saving irrigation system company and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corporation.

On Monday afternoon, Zardari attended a seminar joined by staff from Shanghai Stock Exchange and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China(ICBC), and scholars from Fudan University.

Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng met with Zardari on Monday evening.

Zardari arrived here on Sunday from China's Hubei Province. He is scheduled to leave for home on Tuesday.
