Two dead, nine missing in rainstorm-triggered disasters in Tibet(Xinhua)
Updated: 2007-09-06 15:24 Rainstorms in Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region which brought lightning strikes and triggered landslides have killed two people, left nine missing and caused 14 injuries this week, the regional meteorological bureau said. On Monday, a lightning strike led to the death of two villagers and injured ten in Dinggye County, Xigaze Prefecture, the bureau said in a press release on Thursday. It said the victims were collecting fodder from pastureland ten kilometers from their village when the accident occurred at 5:00 pm. In a second tragedy, nine people were left missing and four were injured in a landslide triggered by heavy rain on Tuesday evening in Bomi County of Nyingchi Prefecture, the bureau said. The landslide also forced the evacuation of 15 local families and disrupted traffic on an inter-provincial highway. On Wednesday, the regional meteorological bureau issued its fifth alarm of the year against rainstorms and subsequent disasters. |
