Hong Kong conservation authority announced in Hong Kong Saturday that a dead bird found on Jan. 9 had tested positive for H5 virus of avian influenza.

A spokesman for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said that the carcass of the Crested Goshawk was collected by department staff at the hill behind Shek Kip Mei Health Centre after being alerted by a member of the public, and that further confirmatory tests are still being conducted.

On Jan. 4, the department also announced that one of the six bird carcasses found on Leighton Road of Causeway Bay on Dec. 31 tested positive for H5 virus.

The spokesman reminded members of the public to observe good personal hygiene and avoid personal contact with wild birds and live poultry.
