China has become the second country, after New Zealand, to become officially recognized as a qualified member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), according to a news release from China's Family Planning Association.

It said China's association has passed IPPF's qualification authentication process, making China second after New Zealand to pass the test that was developed in 2002 by the federation's 150 member states.

The IPPF agreed that China's association has met the 65 criteria on sexual and reproductive health issues after extensive research and exchanges with the association, said the release.

Established in 1952, the IPPF was among the world's largest non-governmental organizations on family planning and reproductive health. China joined the IPPF in 1983.
