The concerned authorities in Macao have confirmed that the red fire ants made the comeback to the city.

The Macao Post Daily Tuesday quoted sources from the Civic and Municipal Affairs (CMA) as saying that the fatal insects have been found at the city spots including construction sites and golf driving ranges.

Being bitten by the red fire ants might cause symptoms as skin swelling and more seriously, suffocation, which will possibly lead to the death of the victims. A 50-year-old male employee was reportedly bitten by the ants on Sunday at the Jockey Club, who was afterwards stated as in stable conditions in hospital.

The red fire ants were discovered in Macao for the first time in last February, according to the newspaper.

The CMA personnel has started checking at public areas covering parks and other green spaces, the sources told the newspaper.

An ants hill has been "eradicated" by the CMA task forces at the Jockey Club, the sources were cited.
