Lionel Richie has revealed that he is confident that his daughter Nicole will be a "wonderful parent".

Nicole and her fiance Joel Madden welcomed their first child, Harlow Winter Kate Madden, last week.

"While it may take me a moment to adjust to being called granddad, I am extremely happy and proud of Nicole and Joel," Lionel explained in a statement.

"Harlow Winter Kate Madden, the newest and most beautiful addition to the Richie clan, is a lucky little girl," he added. "Nicole and Joel are going to be wonderful parents."

Madden said that he felt "blessed" to have his baby daughter in a statement yesterday.
