Volkswagen XL1, the world's first 1-liter car, made its Beijing debut on Oct 23, 2013. During the 'experience day for new energy cars' held by Volkswagen Group China, the plug-in diesel hybrid car was shown off to the news media and visitors.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the car is the world's most efficient plug-in diesel hybrid car. Only a limited production of 250 units will be for sale around the world.
