Dec exports surge was 'normal': ministry

By Li Jiabao (chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2013-01-17 17:12

Responding to skepticism about China's exports surge in December, Commerce Ministry spokesman Shen Danyang said during a news briefing on Wednesday that it is normal to see exports fluctuate some months.

He added that there is no reason to say that the December exports figure was fabricated.

The expiration of some measures at the end of last month was also responsible for the hike, Shen said. The exemption of statutory inspection and quarantine fees expired on Dec 31, which boosted exports in December.

China's exports in December surged 14.1 percent year-on-year, while November saw exports rise 2.9 percent year-on-year, according to the General Administration of Customs.
