BEIJING -- The number of travelers in major scenic spots across China had totaled 4.27 million by 5 pm on Monday, as Chinese people are enjoying an eight-day National Day holiday.

The figure is 23.72 percent higher than that of last year's National Day, according to the National Tourism Administration.

Meanwhile, gross revenue of tickets in those scenic spots hit 215 million yuan ($34 million), up 13.77 percent, according to the NTA.

Monday marks the 63rd founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China.

The NTA monitoring system covers a total of 119 scenic spots across the country.
