GM China sales hit record 220,412 units in Oct

US-based auto giant General Motors Corp and its China joint ventures sold a total of 220,412 cars in October, representing a year-on-year growth of 10.4 percent, the highest monthly level ever recorded.

Shanghai General Motors Co Ltd, the joint venture between GM and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, sold 103,309 cars in October, up 4.3 percent year-on-year, said GM in a statement. Sales of Buick vehicles rose 3.1 percent year-on-year to a record high of 56,200 units.

GM's three-way mini-van joint venture SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co Ltd saw its vehicle sales hit record 111,95 units last month, up 19.2 percent year-on-year.

However, sales of FAW-GM Duty Commercial Vehicle Co, the company's commercial vehicle JV with FAW Group, plunged 32.2 percent year-on-year to 4,408 units.

In the first ten months of this year, sales by GM and its joint ventures amounted to 2.11 million units, up 6.6 percent from 1.98 million units in the same period of 2010.

China Passenger Car Association said that China's passenger car sales fell 4.2 percent year-on-year in October.
