China stocks close lower Monday

BEIJING - Chinese shares closed lower Monday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 45.57 points, or 1.51 percent, to 2,964.95.

The Shenzhen Component Index fell 200.41 points, or 1.58 percent, to 12,508.01.

Combined turnover rose to 243.77 billion yuan ($37.5 billion) from 237.93 billion yuan in the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers 719 to 164 in Shanghai and 995 to 213 in Shenzhen.
