Automakers to recall 75,000 cars over faulty Kumho tires

BEIJING - China's top quality watchdog said on Monday that three Chinese car manufacturers will recall approximately 75,000 cars due to their faulty Kumho tires beginning April 15.

The tires to be recalled contain excessive amounts of recycled materials which might affect the way the tires function, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).

The AQSIQ said on April 2 that Kumho Tires, which is headquartered in the Republic of Korea, will recall more than 300,000 substandard tires in China beginning April 15.

Also, Beijing Hyundai Motor Company has declared a recall of 63,588 vehicles produced between June 4, 2008 and Jan 13, 2011. The recall involves eight models, including Elantra and Accent.

Further, Great Wall Automobile Holding Company Limited will recall 4,685 vehicles assembled between Oct 30, 2008 and Jan 28, 2011, involving two models: Florid and Tengyi C30.

Finally, Dongfeng Yueda KIA Motors Limited will recall 6,419 Cerato cars produced between 2008 and 2009 and 788 Rio sedans produced in 2011.
