MACAO - Vacancies in Macao's gaming sector in the fourth quarter of 2010 soared nearly nine-fold over the same period of the previous year to 3,761, due to a major gaming and tourism project coming into operation, according to the figures released Wednesday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

The gaming sector had 44,806 employees by the end of the fourth quarter of 2010, up by 1.8 percent year-on-year, the figures indicated.

In December 2010, average earnings, excluding bonuses and allowances, of full-time employees rose by 4 percent year-on-year to 15,700 patacas ($1,962), according to the DSEC.

As for recruitment conditions, 68.3 percent of the gaming sector's vacancies required no working experience, and 75 percent required senior secondary education or higher. Other preferred language skills were Putonghua and English.
