The Chinese government may pass the Social Security Law and examine the draft of the Social Relief Law this year, said Zheng Gongcheng, member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on Wednesday in an exclusive interview with China Daily.

The central government recently adopted measures to improve social security standards and may give it a bigger share of the fiscal budget this year, said Zheng.

A large portion of the 4-trillion-yuan stimulus package will go to China's social security system, he said, such as on low-income houses.

Zheng said that social security issues would be one of the top concerns addressed in Premier Wen Jiabao's government report on Thursday.

This year will mark a milestone in the development of China's social security scheme, which will be steadier and more sustainable thereafter, Zheng said.
