Chinese equities closed slightly down Thursday despite the better-than-expected GDP data.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dropped 19.18 points, or 0.62 percent, to end at 3,051.41.

The Shenzhen Component Index fell 68.03 points, or 0.54 percent, to close at 12,624.68.

Combined turnover shrank to 199.22 billion yuan ($29.29 billion) from 247.91 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
