Stable prices predicted for H1 2009

Prices of consumer products and production materials will remain stable during the first half of 2009, Jiang Zengwei, vice commerce minister, said on Monday.

Jiang said the grain price in China was stable in January, and the production material price dropped 1.3 percent in January from December 2008.

"We have concluded that there will be no major fluctuations of prices in the first half of this year," said Jiang, citing a survey conducted by the Ministry of Commerce.

Government stimulus measures will play an active role in stabilizing commodity prices, Jiang said.
