China's main stock index rose 2.22 percent yesterday, led by six main banks, getting off to a good start in the new week.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed at 3,596.44 points, 78.17 points higher. The turnover, of 145.54 billion yuan in the A-share market, set a new record. A total of 753 companies gained, while only 25 saw losses.
