Ping An Insurance (Group) Co, China's second-biggest insurer, said its 2006 profit almost doubled because of investment gains in the country's stock market.

Net income rose to 7.84 billion yuan from 4.23 billion yuan in 2005, based on international accounting standards, the insurer told the Shanghai Stock Exchange yesterday.
