South China auto hub to build more charging points

(Xinhua) Updated: 2016-04-18 10:30

NANNING - Liuzhou city, a major automobile production base in South China, will build 2,000 charging points for new energy vehicles.

According to the city's power supply bureau, about 500 to 700 charging points will be erected in the downtown area over the next two years.

"We will cooperate with government agencies, schools, enterprises and public institutions to build this first round of charging facilities," said Huang Jidong of the bureau.

Huang said commercial charging facilities will also be supported with power supply and connections to the wider grid.

Liuzhou in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region manufactured 2.29 million automobiles last year, accounting for 9.4 percent of all output in China.

The city has invested heavily in the new energy vehicle sector.
