Aluminum output in China, the world's biggest producer of the lightweight metal, may rise 14 percent to 10.5 million metric tons next year, exceeding demand, according to a government forecast.

Aluminum consumption will rise 13 percent to 9.6 million tons in 2007, the National Development and Reform Commission said in a statement on its Website yesterday. China has tightened bank loans to aluminum and steel industries since 2004 and closed obsolete plants to curb excessive investment in the industries that have driven up raw materials costs and clogged transportation.
