The U-23 team also drew with Thailand during the AFC Asian Cup group stages in January. Both teams made significant changes to their squads for the Xi'an tournament, with Antonio Puche, the Chinese team's head coach, saying it represents a fresh start.
China U-23 held a clear advantage in both shots and possession, leading Thailand 13–7 in total shots, with the two late goals demonstrating the young players' potential and strong ability to perform under pressure.

The tournament's second round will take place on March 28, with China's U-23 team facing the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Antonio said, "Many new players have joined the team, and we need to observe and evaluate them during the tournament. The matches will help the new players gain experience and prepare for the Asian Games."
