Curators Li Ziwei and Anthony Phuong were intrigued by the story of a flock of tropical parrots that accidentally landed in Paris, gradually adapted, multiplied and became part of the urban landscape. They found in this a striking parallel to the experience of many Asian artists in France. Combining "parrot" and "immigration", they created the term Parrotgration, which embodies the idea of migration as a vital living transformation.
According to Li, Asian artists who move to France, like the Parisian parrots, preserve the intensity of their own colors while fully participating in the cultural ecosystem that welcomes them.
