China National Archives of Publications and Culture is developing an online platform to showcase Chinese classics, digitally presenting ancient texts in their original form. "It seeks to enrich cultural life by making digital resources more accessible to the public," said Liu Chengyong, director of the archives and a member of the CPPCC National Committee.

Made up of its headquarters, Wenhan Ge (pavilion) in Beijing and three branches - Wenji Ge in Xi'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi province, Wenrun Ge in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, and Wenqin Ge in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong province - the archives is committed to preserving and carrying forward the rich heritage of Chinese culture by creating a "gene bank of Chinese cultural seeds", he said.

The archives aims to collect and preserve as many ancient texts and materials as possible, safeguarding the enduring legacy of the world's only uninterrupted civilization, he said.

Since opening in July 2022, the archives has received over 2.2 million visits from guests and groups from across the country and around the world, Liu said on Wednesday while answering questions from journalists during the members' passage interviews on the sidelines of the fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, China's top political advisory body.

"We aim to effectively tell China's story and showcase China's image to both domestic and international audiences," he said.

"In the future," Liu added, "we will focus on collecting Chinese versions, improving our preservation capabilities, expanding our digital resources, and thoroughly researching publishing achievements. These efforts will continually support the development of the gene bank of Chinese cultural seeds."
