China unveiled an independently developed SYT80 (T1200-grade) ultra-high-strength carbon fiber material on Wednesday, marking a major breakthrough in the country's advanced materials sector and filling a gap in the global market.

The new product was developed by a subsidiary of China National Building Material Group (CNBM), a Beijing-based centrally administered State-owned enterprise.

Unlike many cutting-edge materials that remain confined to laboratory testing, the carbon fiber has already achieved industrial-scale production with an annual capacity measured in hundreds of tons, making China the first country in the world to achieve mass production of carbon fiber at this strength level, according to CNBM.

The fiber's diameter is less than one-tenth that of a human hair, yet its tensile strength is about 10 times that of conventional steel, while its density is only a quarter that of steel. The combination of exceptional strength and lightweight properties makes it highly attractive for advanced industrial applications.

With these performance advantages, the material is expected to be widely used in strategic emerging industries — including aerospace, the low-altitude economy, and humanoid robotics — supporting the development of next-generation high-end equipment and advanced manufacturing.
